The 16-85mm f3.5-5.6 DX Nikkor is a perfect all round lens. Its build quality is very good; it has metal inner lens barrel, which is unusual in a consumer zoom. Its performance is excellent throughout the zoom range, starting from the highest aperture. All in all, a perfect affordable zoom lens for an APS C format (1.5x) camera.
The only downside to this lens is its rather slow speed at 85mm, which prevents the lens from being an effective portrait lens. The lack of background blur can be seen in some of the images below which were taken at 85mm setting.
